Point Cook Rose Garden

I had the pleasure to build a formal rose garden for a young couple in Point Cook.
When I first looked at the site, it was a typical new estate type garden; 'low maintenance' with small landscape rocks, few yucca's and weeds...
The rocks where laid on a plastic type weedmat, rendering the soil basically useless so after the clients approved the design as per their brief (lawn, standard roses, behind a hedge and weeping Cherries), the improvement of the soil was the #1 priority.

Soil preparation was necessary - after removing the old rocks (the white iceberg rocks were later re-used) the clay soil was very glassy, didn't drain properly, so it needed a bit of work: a pitch fork, lots of gypsum, rolled up sleeves, thankfully some drying winds, good compost and a rotary hoe.
The Yucca's were cut down, the branches cut and potted and sold on eBay!

Installation of borders and new steps to front door.
The roses were ordered from Thomas for Roses in South Australia, the hedge plants (Lillypilly) ordered from the plant wholesaler.
Next step was to lay the turf.

Turf installed: Village Green Kikuyu
A great turf for sunny locations, self repairing but no good in shady positions. In this location it's ideal.

Standard Lillypilly, a great contrast to the neighbours Lavender hedge - these colours will look fantastic together.

Re-using existing pavers and the iceberg rocks and off cuts from the deck at the rear, now this entrance, flanked by roses, is giving a great impression.
