LUSH LAWNS, HEALTHY TURF

We can supply, prepare, install and maintain your lawn.

Selection and supply
Not every turf species is reacts the same to different circumstances so it is important to get it right.
  • Some turf needs lots of sun all day, some tolerate shade.
  • Some turfs repair well after some high foot traffic or cars, others absolutely not.
  • Some lawns are salt tolerant, other species are more resistant to droughts.
  • Some turf species are vigorous growers making them cheaper initially, but requiring more frequent maintenance.

We can help you selecting the type of turf that best suits your property and lifestyle. And budget.

Preparation
There are a few things that will determine the success of your new lawn - soil preparation is vital!
Ultimately, the soil is where your lawn will get its water, air and food (nutrients) from.
And don't forget the earthworms and other living (micro-)organisms that assist in root growth.
Checking the acidity levels of your soil - ideally the pH for your lawn sits between 6 and 7 - and adjusting them if needed, will help getting your new lawn established.
Then there is making sure the level of your turf is on par with other surfaces that may drain onto your lawn.

We love soils. So if you need help getting your soil prepared, we happily assist

Installation
Lay the turf on the day you get it delivered and plan your delivery.
The turf will either come in rolls or slabs which can be heavy (especially when wet) so get your delivery placed as close as possible to new lawn area.
If your new lawn area slopes then lay the turf starting from the bottom of the slope and lay it across the slope.
Don't lay your rolls or slabs in a checkerboard fashion, lay them like the bricks in a brick wall (stagger the joints).
Butt the slabs or rolls tightly together to prevent them from drying out
Cut the turf where required with a sharp knife or shears and don't stretch the turf.
Water the fresh laid turf in and avoid walking on it.
Roll the lawn with a lawn roller once its watered in well to push out any remaining pockets of air that will cause the turf from drying out.

There is a whole list of tips and do's and don'ts - if you want your turf installed properly, get a professional to do it for you.

Maintenance
Mowing is a large part of maintaining your lawn:
  • use the right mowing height, do not mow too low (avoid scalping)
  • ensure using a clean mowing deck to prevent weed seeds from spreading
  • use a sturdy mower with no loose or wobbly parts

Lawns need care throughout the year; fertilise regularly, dethatch once or twice a year if you mulch your clippings when you mow and during the growing season add a top dressing to even out the low spots.
Aerating. Easy to do with a garden fork on small areas, use spiked rollers or motorised aerators for large lawns.
Watering. Best to do in early part of the morning, especially with cool season grasses. And a deep soak is better than a regular sprinkle as it encourages stronger root growth which will help during sry periods.
Your lawn needs water if its wilting or losing colour and if the grass, when you walk on it, stays flat instead of bouncing back.
